Trail Therapy is expanding in 2024! Details to come!
THANK YOU EVERYONE!
Trail Therapy Day 2021 was amazing!
Our first annual Trail Therapy day was an amazing success. We had over 120 people come ready, willing and able to clean our Hidden Hollow trail system, ages 2 and up!
Within 3 hours, we picked up 2500 pounds or more of trash, and collectively logged roughly 350 hours of trail cleanup. We had 5 trucks/trailers full to the brim with trash to take to the dump. A few of our finds include- a large stand-up freezer completely full of meat; at least 150 lbs and a couple thousand dollars worth of meat. Also, a dryer (as in washer and dryer), a television, a truck bed cover, a jeep soft-top, underwear, and even a dead horse.... yes, a dead horse. A few people found a bag, started pulling and digging it out and discovered a horse head, followed by it's body (all skeletal). and of course, tons of metal, sheetrock, etc. We filled 150 @keepnaturewild bags, and even more. We even spent an hour and a half using "fishing magnets" to troll the Rockpile parking lot to pick up A TON of nails left over from pallet fires people have burned up there. It was eye opening to see what people find ok to dump on trails. It was actually really sad and disappointing. But, it was incredible to have so many willing hearts and hands ready to work. People drove hours to come help - even one person came all the way from Durango, Colorado! One of our event co-founders, Sarah Bush, said it perfectly: "The outdoors provide healing, therapy, happiness, rest, and peace to so many. It was wonderful to give our little trails a face lift, and now I want to go do it everywhere I go. If we all leave it better than we found it, we'll be able to enjoy the wonders of Mother Earth longer and more fully." We really have found special solace, peace, and stronger relationships on the trails - especially this past year, and we are so glad to give back. As founders of this event, we have some great ideas and big ambitions for the future of Trail Therapy Day and hope you'll continue to participate with us! A major thank you to so many sponsors who donated goods for our raffle: Altra Running, Trail Sisters, Beform, Movi Hats, I still Run, Utah Mountain Biking, Nuun Hydration, Keep Nature Wild, Picky Bars, The Lake Mountain Bicycle Club, Beammco, and more! Check out their social media sites too! @altrarunning @trail_sisters @nuunhydration @keepnaturewild @pickybars @beammco @movihats @hylandspowered @stilliruncommunity @utahmountainbiking And of course, thank you to all the wonderful people who brought trucks and went the extra mile to take garbage to the dump, pick up really stinky stuff, and went out of their way to hep out wherever they could. We love you. Also, a huge thanks to Sarah Bush, Laura Hall, and Bryant Ercanbrack for making this all come together - you guys are the best! |
